Why this design works

Fine berry hearts on pale blush is deliberately softer than red on white, which is the pairing most Valentine artwork reaches for and the one that photographs hardest. The hearts are small and repeated rather than large and central, so the design works as a border on a cupcake disc and as packaging artwork on a gift box lid — the same file doing two jobs on the occasion where that matters most.

What to put in the centre

The blank centre is the point of the design. These are three that work, and why:

Be Mine
Two short words is the maximum that stays legible at 2 inches.
Made with love
Works on the cupcake and on the box. Good for a bakery selling gift sets.
XOXO
The shortest option, and the one that reads at any size.

Sizes for this occasion

Match cookie toppers to your cutter, not to a standard size. If your heart cutter is 2.5 inches at its widest, the topper needs to be around 2.2 inches to leave a visible border of icing — printing to the exact cutter size leaves no margin for a slightly off-centre placement.

Printing it

Try the heart shape and a short message. Leave enough space around the lettering to account for the narrower bottom of the shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should this valentine’s day topper be?

Cupcake discs takes 2 inches, and cookie toppers takes 2–2.5 inches. Match cookie toppers to your cutter, not to a standard size. If your heart cutter is 2.5 inches at its widest, the topper needs to be around 2.2 inches to leave a visible border of icing — printing to the exact cutter size leaves no margin for a slightly off-centre placement.

What can I personalise?

Change the name, message, lettering colour, size and shape in the editor. The illustration itself has a fixed palette. You can edit before signing in, and a free account includes two watermark-free 300 DPI downloads per UK calendar day.

What do I print it on?

Cardstock at 250–300gsm for a paper topper on a stick, or an edible icing sheet if it will sit directly on buttercream and be eaten. Edible printing needs a printer dedicated to edible ink — you cannot use one that has had regular ink through it. Print at 100% or "actual size", never "fit to page", which silently shrinks the topper.

Anything to watch when printing this design?

Pinks and reds shift more than any other colours between screen and edible print. Print one test disc before committing a full sheet — the difference is usually larger than expected.
