Why this design works
Two interlocking bands and a laurel, and almost nothing else. An anniversary topper is marking a number, so the design is built to make that number large: the rings sit high, the roses sit low, and the middle third is empty. The gold is warm rather than metallic because a metallic gradient does not print — it comes out as a flat muddy brown on both card and edible sheets.
What to put in the centre
The blank centre is the point of the design. These are three that work, and why:
- “25 years”
- The number is the point. Give it the full width of the centre.
- “Ruby & Tom”
- Two names on one line, with the years below in the supporting font.
- “1976 · 2026”
- Understated, and it does the arithmetic for whoever is looking at the cake.
Sizes for this occasion
Two-digit numbers need noticeably more width than a name. Lay the number out first and fit the names to it, rather than the other way round — otherwise the "50" ends up cramped against the edge.

What size should this anniversaries topper be?
Topper for a 6" cake takes 3.5–4 inches, and topper for an 8" cake takes 5–5.5 inches. Two-digit numbers need noticeably more width than a name. Lay the number out first and fit the names to it, rather than the other way round — otherwise the "50" ends up cramped against the edge.

What do I print it on?
Cardstock at 250–300gsm for a paper topper on a stick, or an edible icing sheet if it will sit directly on buttercream and be eaten. Edible printing needs a printer dedicated to edible ink — you cannot use one that has had regular ink through it. Print at 100% or "actual size", never "fit to page", which silently shrinks the topper.
Anything to watch when printing this design?
Gold on ivory is a low-contrast pairing by design. Do not set the lettering in the same gold — use the darker ink colour, or the text disappears into the wreath at cupcake size.
