Why this size
Mini tins are less standard than full-size ones: Quaker gives a mini cup as 1.75 inches across the top, while other bakers measure theirs nearer 1.25 inches, and UK mini cases have a 31 to 35 mm base. That spread is why suppliers sell both 1.25 and 1.5 inch circles.
Measure across the flat top of one frosted mini. Around 1.5 inches, print 1.25; closer to 1.75, print 1.5.
How to put an edible image on mini cupcakes

Frost smooth, not piped
At this size a piped swirl leaves almost nowhere for the image to sit. Spread a smooth dome of buttercream instead. - 2
