Football Cake Topper sizes

Team parties mean numbers — a squad plus siblings is easily twenty children. One A4 sheet gives 15 cupcake discs from the same design, so print two and personalise a few with individual names and numbers.

Team colours that print well

Put the team in the lettering: the name in the club’s main colour and the number in its second. That is what makes it their cake.
Pitch green prints darker on edible sheets than on screen, so the border here is a mid green that lands as grass rather than bottle green.
Reds and navies print reliably. Sky blues, and yellows close to white, are the hardest team colours to reproduce — print a test disc first.
For a team that plays in white, set the lettering in the trim colour instead. White lettering on the pale centre will not read.

The artwork itself stays neutral — green, gold and mixed bunting — so it suits any team. The club lives in the lettering, which you can recolour in the editor.

The name above a big shirt number is the strongest layout, and the number can double as the age — a seventh birthday gets a number 7. Keep “Player of the match” for the main cake; on cupcakes the name alone is enough.

What to print it on

Edible icing sheets for a flat topper on buttercream and for the cupcakes.
Cardstock at 300gsm on a stick if the cake has a fondant pitch and you want the topper standing up like a flag.
Summer parties on the grass: card holds up in the heat, while icing sheets soften and wrinkle — keep the cake in the shade until it is cut.

How do I make a football pitch cake?

What resolution should a printed cake topper be?

Export at 300 DPI. Below about 200 DPI the edges of text and artwork go soft once printed at topper size, and it is very obvious on a 3 inch disc held a foot from someone’s face. The editor exports at 300 DPI by default, so the main thing to watch is the resolution of whatever image you started from.
